Fostering a love for reading: Library’s 2025 Literacy Initiative takes off

In an inspiring start to the new year, the Iloilo Provincial Library and Archives has kicked off its 2025 Storytelling and Literacy Program with a vibrant event at Sitio Sambag Day Care Center in the Municipality of Maasin last January 30, 2025.

The program aims to spark a lifelong love for reading among young learners through a combination of engaging activities and resource support. As part of this initiative, the library has generously donated books and learning materials to the daycare center, laying the foundation for a sustainable reading culture.

During the launch event, children were treated to an immersive storytelling session carefully crafted to nurture their creative thinking and language development. The session went beyond mere entertainment, focusing on building essential life skills such as empathy and cultural awareness.

To complement the storytelling, young participants engaged in creative art and coloring exercises. These activities served to encourage artistic expression while developing crucial motor skills and cognitive abilities.

Looking ahead, the Provincial Library & Archives is actively seeking community support to expand these enriching programs across public schools and local communities. The initiative represents a significant step toward building a more literate and empowered future generation.

For those interested in contributing to this meaningful cause, the library welcomes partnerships and donations. Together, we can help shape the future of literacy in our community.
