April 11, 2024 – The National Museum of the Philippines Iloilo recently launched an exciting monthly literacy program called Basa Ta (Let’s Read). This program aims to promote a love for reading among preschool and primary school learners in Iloilo, as well as to inspire public appreciation of Filipino heritage and support lifelong learning.
Iloilo Province joined the launch of Basa Ta, with Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, Iloilo Provincial Library Head Allana Delgado, and guest reader Mr. Rey Nan Bermudo. Seven day care centers also participated in the program, making it a truly community-driven initiative.
The National Museum of the Philippines Iloilo came up with Basa Ta to promote the love of reading to young Ilonggos. Reading has been proven to have numerous benefits for individuals, including reducing stress, improving focus and concentration, and enhancing cognitive abilities.
Additionally, Basa Ta seeks to utilize the NMP Iloilo Book Nook, engage with community partners, and ultimately inspire children to dream big.
After participating in the reading program, the pupils had the opportunity to tour the museum galleries, further enriching their learning experience. Educators and schools who are interested in joining next month’s Basa Ta program are encouraged to reach out to the National Museum of the Philippines Iloilo to inquire about participation.
Beyond the goal of enhancing reading skills, Basa Ta also aims to create a space within the museum that nurtures the general well-being and mental health of children. By utilizing the NMP Iloilo Book Nook and engaging community partners, the program seeks to inspire children to dream and explore their creativity through the magic of storytelling.
In conclusion, Basa Ta is not just a reading program—it is a gateway to a world of knowledge, inspiration, and imagination for the young minds of Iloilo. By instilling a love for reading and a passion for learning, this initiative is paving the way for a brighter future for children in the province and beyond.
